The Gulf‘s islands

The islands in the Gulf

The Gulf is about 30,000 acres. This inland sea with it’s strong currents boasts 42 scattered islands and enjoys the well-deserved reputation as one of the most beautiful bays in the world. So take in the view! We suggest that you set off from Saint Armel to Séné (Breton “Sine”). Or catch one of the pleasure boats from Port Navalo and head to the fine treasures of The Little Sea: Ile-aux-Moines also known as La perle du Golfe”/ “The pearl of the Gulf”, Ile d’Arz renowned as “L’ île aux capitaines”/ “captains’ Island”, Gavrinis and its fantastic cairn, Er Lannnic and its cromlech.

The Ponant islands : Belle-île, Houat, Hoëdic ...

Off the Atlantic coast of the Rhuys Peninsula you can sail from Port Navalo and discover the Ponant islands !
Houat and Hoëdic are the names of serene beauties with lovely coves and large sweeping sandy beaches. Granite rocks together with open skies give you a sense of harmony and freedom. Preserved coastlines and engaging footpaths make Houat and Hoëdic charming memorable islands. Further to the west is Belle-Île the name of which means “beautiful island”. It is far bigger than Houat and Hoëdic and this captivating gem of The Ponant is the most visited island and truly deserves its French name. This sea-surrounded piece of Breton land enjoys amazingly mild weather thanks to the Gulf Stream. With it’s distinctive sandy coastline one side and rocky cliffs known as the ‘wild coast ‘ on the other, Belle Isle is a wonderful place to get away from the daily stresses of life.
